What's New

New features, improvements, and fixes as we build EmbroidAI. Newest releases first.

  1. Launch
    • EmbroidAI is out of beta. Version 1.0 marks the point where the core promise — drop in artwork, get back a file you can actually put on a machine — holds up end to end, in color, for the formats and hoops people really use.
    New
    • Color tracing on the auto-digitize page. Upload a logo or a piece of artwork and EmbroidAI now reads its actual colors, keeping each one as its own region and turning it into its own thread. Until now a photo or PNG was flattened to a single black silhouette, and the color had to be put back by hand — that step is gone.
    • The background is detected and dropped automatically, so a logo on a white or transparent canvas comes through as the logo alone instead of a solid rectangle of stitching around it. Nothing to select, no eraser, no trimming afterwards.
    • You stay in control of how many threads you end up with. Similar shades are grouped rather than treated as separate colors, which keeps a photograph from turning into a fifty-thread design that no one would want to sew or re-thread.
    • Single-color artwork is still handled the old way when that is genuinely what you want — a one-thread silhouette from a mono trace — so line art and stencils do not get split into threads they never had.
    • A new free tool: “Create a Social Stitch Video”. Upload any embroidery file — DST, PES, EXP, JEF or VP3 — and watch the design stitch itself out as a video you can post straight to Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Facebook.
    • Choose 9:16 vertical or 16:9 horizontal, set the stitch-out speed to 1×, 0.5× or 0.25×, add your own logo, the design name and a line of your own text. The finished MP4 carries your branding, not ours — there is no watermark on it anywhere.
    • The moment you drop a file in, you see the stitch count, the thread colors, the finished size and exactly how long the video will run — before you commit to making it. It is free, needs no account, and the whole thing happens inside your browser: the design file, your logo and the video never leave your device.
    Improved
    • The auto-digitize page is faster and lighter to work in. Converting artwork, previewing the stitches and adjusting the result no longer fight each other for the browser's attention, so the page keeps up on an ordinary laptop instead of stalling on larger designs.
    • Digitizing now runs in color end to end. The stitch plan assigns a thread per traced color in the order they are painted, so the preview, the color list and the downloaded file all agree on what goes on the machine and in what sequence.
    • Artwork you supply as an SVG keeps the colors you drew it with, and traced artwork now behaves the same way — the two paths no longer produce different-looking results from the same picture.
  2. New
    • EmbroidAI now has a public API you can call from your own website or app. Send it an image and it returns a ready-to-stitch DST file, along with the stitch count, thread colors, finished size, and jump and trim counts — everything you need to show a preview or quote a job without opening the dashboard.
    • API keys, usage figures, a request playground, and the documentation all live under Settings → Developers. Turn on developer mode there to reveal the section and create your first key.
    • Underlay is now yours to choose. A new "Use underlay on fill stitch" checkbox in Design Settings puts a stabilising layer beneath filled areas — worth turning on for knits, towelling, and anything with a pile. It is off by default, so designs stay as lean as possible unless you ask for it.
    • 10 new fonts for the Create Embroidery page, giving you a wider range of lettering styles to build names, monograms, and wording from.
    Improved
    • Auto-digitized fills stitch far more cleanly. Where a fill row turned back on itself, the machine used to lift the needle and jump — leaving a stray thread tail to trim at nearly every turn. Those turns are now sewn straight through, which on a typical design removes hundreds of unnecessary jumps.
    • Fill rows sit closer together, so filled areas read as solid cloth instead of showing fine lines of fabric between the rows.
    Content
    • More free designs added to the library, bringing the total to 374. They are sorted into their categories, so they turn up as you browse each collection.
  3. New
    • Wide shapes are now covered with a proper tatami fill instead of being left as a hollow outline. Anything too wide for a satin column — solid backgrounds, thick lettering, large blocks of color — is filled with parallel rows of stitching, so it stitches out solid the way you'd expect.
    • Fill rows are laid at an angle across the shape rather than straight up and down, and each row is offset slightly from the one before it. That staggering is what stops needle holes lining up into a visible split down the middle of a filled area.
    • Fills follow each shape's own long axis where there is one, which means fewer, longer rows and fewer direction changes — a cleaner finish and less time on the machine.
    • Holes are respected. A shape with a gap in it — the middle of an O, a cut-out in a logo — is filled around the gap instead of stitching straight across it.
    • The Stitch Plan tab now has a Fill count alongside Satin and Running, and every filled region is tagged in the region list so you can see exactly how each part of your design will be stitched.
    Improved
    • The Embroidery File tab now gives the whole panel to the stitch preview. The stitch and size figures that used to sit above it are already on the Stitch Plan tab and in the viewer's own sidebar, so the preview no longer competes with a duplicate read-out for space.
    • Wide regions no longer fall back to a plain outline. Previously anything past the satin limit was outlined and flagged as a compromise; it is now filled properly, so the warning explains what happened rather than telling you something was skipped.
    • Stroke-only artwork is handled correctly. Paths that are drawn but not painted are no longer treated as solid areas to fill, so outline SVGs stitch as outlines instead of being flooded with thread.
    • Design pages and the free-designs library load noticeably faster and put far less load on the browser, after the heavy stitch geometry was moved off the initial page load.
  4. New
    • Create Embroidery is now a full design studio. Instead of generating one piece of lettering at a time, you build a whole design on a canvas — add as many text objects as you like and place each one exactly where you want it.
    • Every object on the canvas can be dragged into position, rotated, and given its own thread color, so you can lay out names, monograms, and multi-line wording without leaving the page.
    • You can now drop designs from the free library straight onto the canvas. Pick one from the new Library tab and it lands as a normal object — draggable and rotatable like everything else — so you can combine a design with your own text in one file.
    • A new object list shows everything on the canvas in the order it stitches, and you can drag rows to reorder them — which also changes the travel path the machine takes between pieces.
    • Optional hoop guide and jump-stitch overlays on the canvas, so you can check your layout fits a real hoop and see how the pieces connect before you stitch.
    • Save your finished composition straight to My Designs as a ready-to-stitch file.

    • Added 100+ new designs to the Free Embroidery Designs library, sorted into their categories so they turn up as you browse each collection.
  5. New
    • You can now upload an SVG directly on the Auto-Digitize page. Vector artwork skips the vectorizing step entirely and goes straight to digitizing, so nothing is redrawn and your paths stay exactly as you designed them.
    • New “Auto” hoop option: instead of scaling your design to fill a hoop, it keeps the artwork's real dimensions — an SVG that says 80 × 60 mm stitches out at exactly 80 × 60 mm.
    • New “Custom size” hoop option for entering any width and height in millimetres, for hoops and frames that aren't in the preset list.
    • Your downloaded free-library designs now appear in My Designs alongside your own uploads, on their own tab.
    • My Designs now has a Download column showing every embroidery format, so you can see at a glance which ones a design is available in.
    Improved
    • Renamed the “Upload Design” menu item to “Auto-Digitize”, which better describes what the page actually does — turning artwork into a stitch file rather than uploading a finished one.
    • Designs that don't fit the selected hoop now say so clearly, including whether simply rotating the artwork would make it fit, and how much stitchable space the hoop leaves after its safety margin.
    Fixed
    • Thread colors now show on design pages for older designs that were saved before the current storage format.
    • Jump stitches now appear in the viewer when a design's only jumps are the travel moves between colors — previously those were counted but never drawn.
    • Warning messages are now readable on the light theme; they were previously drawn in a pale amber that all but disappeared against a light background.
    • Trims are no longer lost when a design is saved, so files that use them keep them through conversion.

    • The Free Embroidery Designs library is now organized by category — browse designs grouped into collections instead of one long list.
    • New category pages: click “View all files” on any collection to see every free design in that category on its own page, with larger preview cards.
    • Design categories are now clickable on each design's page, so you can jump straight from a design to more like it.
    Improved
    • Redesigned the design cards in the free library for a cleaner, more scannable browse, showing the format, size and stitch count at a glance.
    • PES designs now report their number of distinct thread colors, so the color count matches what you actually stitch.

    • New Image to Embroidery tool — upload any photo, logo, or artwork and generate a machine-ready embroidery design with AI, preview the true-to-thread stitches, and download a DST or PES file, free and with no login.

    • Two-finger pinch-to-zoom now works in the SVG preview on touch devices, and zooming no longer feels laggy during quick scroll or pinch gestures.
